Separate Waste Collection
Since 2020, Moscow has implemented a two-stream waste collection system. Now, every waste disposal site and all public places have two types of containers:
· Gray for regular waste
· Blue for recyclables
Blue and gray containers are collected by different garbage trucks.
As of January 1, 2022, the entire cycle of solid municipal waste management in Moscow is overseen by a single regional operator—the Joint Stock Company "Ecotechprom."
Take a look at the display. Here, you can learn what waste goes into blue and gray containers.
In the blue container, we place:
· Paper (paper and cardboard)
· Glass (jars and bottles)
· Metal
· Plastic bottles
The contents of blue containers are taken to sorting stations, where recyclables are selected manually or automatically on conveyor belts. The cleaner the waste in blue containers is, the more material can be recycled.
Many places now have special containers for collecting plastic caps and batteries.
After sorting, waste is transported to factories for recycling.
On our display, you can see what can be made from recycled materials. From 1 kg of newspapers, you can get 10 rolls of toilet paper. From 750 plastic caps, you can make a skateboard. Seventy-five percent of Tetra Pak packaging mass is recycled into corrugated cardboard. From 400 aluminum cans, you can make a children's bicycle.
Waste that cannot be recycled should be thrown into the gray container. Such waste is sent to landfills or incinerated. Separate waste collection helps us take care of nature and preserve its resources. Another valuable natural resource is natural gas. Let's proceed and see how the city's gas supply is organized.
